The most important part of this announcement comes right here at the top – I got to make a graphic novel with my best friend Louie Joyce!

A FISTFUL OF PAIN just launched on Kickstarter right now – head on over and buy your copy today!

Yes. Also. Plus: this book is bloody amazing!

A FISTFUL OF PAIN is a new graphic novel from award-winning artist Louie Joyce and me [award-winning writer Ryan K Lindsay]. It is lettered by Thomas Mauer and published by ComixTribe and we are in love with what we’ve made.

The book is a fusion of Louie’s kinetic and insane artwork and a kung fu revenge storyline and a tale of two sisters duelling over the family dragon, Gilgamesh. You will meet Xin and you will care for her deeply and then you will follow her through this very difficult night. This book is massive and wild and such a spray of joy on the eyeballs.

I absolutely love this book and it’s one of the most special stories and projects I ever brought to life.

We just launched this comic on Kickstarter to cover a variety of preorder options and place our very best product into the world. Head over and browse around so you can get your hands into our…

DAY ONE BACKER BONUS BONANZA!

Backers who jump into the campaign in the first 24 hours will have a number of perks…

A Fistful of Process

This process zine, looking at all the work Louie put into making our book, is an insanely cool look behind the curtain on this book and something you are going to want, so you might as well get it for free on the first day!

Seriously, it’s this brilliant artefact, and it’s beautiful as well as educational. Day One: get it for free, *and* that’s when you buy the Hardcover or the Digital option for an already discounted price.

This is why you gotta head over to the campaign right now and sort out your backing option right now  – you do not want to sleep on this!

As for the book itself, the reason for the season, the book with the spine that’s way outta line, the comic on the page that’s causin’ all the rage [the four colour funny you’ll be reading on the dunny…too much?].

Here’s Louie’s Cover for our die-cut hardcover:

Here’s Louie’s cover for the softcover edition:

Here’s the amazing Eric Zawadzki cover we are running as a virgin variant:

Here are some preview pages:

I’ll drop more information as throughout our campaign and keep you all posted with what we have on offer because this is something special.

A FISTFUL OF PAIN is Coming! Soon…

I think this is what’s called a :soft announcement:

A FISTFUL OF PAIN – it is coming!

I have a new hardcover, die-cut, foil, kung fu revenge with dragons, masterpiece graphic novella coming out with one of my best friends, Louie Joyce, and being published by ComixTribe.

This book is, without any hyperbole, one of my dream projects.

I am so incredibly excited to be bringing this story to the world, and you can bet I’m going to be talking about it a whole lot over the coming month as Tyler James, ComixTribe Publisher, brings our book to Kickstarter to launch our story in the most bombastic and awesome ways possible.

Seriously – if you want a little extra mustard on your dog, this campaign is the one to dive into when we launch – there are multiple print options, art, enamel pins [and a little more to be unlocked later on]!

I’ll bang on more about this later, but for now, we just need you to hit this link and click the Notify Me button, and Kickstarter will let you know when we launch [as will I], and there are some First Day Backer Perks, so keep your eyes peeled!

HEADSPACE Has Launched on Kickstarter

HEADSPACE is on Kickstarter, and I think you should check it out because the odds are you’ll dig it a great deal.

SCOPE OUT HEADSPACE ON KICKSTARTER NOW AND CHOOSE A PLEDGE LEVEL

For those who don’t know:

HEADSPACE is a comic created by me, Eric Zawadzki, Sebastian Piriz, Marissa Louise, Dee Cunniffe, and Dan Hill. It’s about a sheriff of a small town who comes to realise he’s trapped inside the mind of a killer.

From there, things go sideways. Should Shane figure out how to leave, or should he stick around a while and see what happens? It’s a tale of dark responsibility, but also a gonzo trip of dog-headed robo-bartenders, and ships armoured in dead bodies, and all kinds of metaphysical fun.

We made this book back in 2014, and now we’re collecting the whole damn thing, plus a tonne of back matter and scripts and annotations and fun in this Digital Omnibus and we can’t wait to get it out into hands.

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET – The Pledge Levels $50-$300

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET is a spacesuit noir revenge one-shot comic from Alex Cormack and me and it’s coming to Kickstarter next week.

To get you prepared, so you can get your brain cogs turning now before you ever hit the campaign, we wanted to let you know the pledge levels – their costs, and their bounty, so shoot here for the $2-$15 levels, and stay here for the deluxe extras!

$50 – Spacesuit Noir Sketches by RKL x 5

Yep, I’m a writer, selling sketches, you’ve been warned.

At least these will be rare, because I don’t sketch outside of this fun stuff. This will get me sketching a weird thing under the guise of ‘spacesuit noir’ – you’ve been warned.

$60 – Annotated Scripts x 3

My personal favourite pledge level – this is where I print off the script, I red pen it with thoughts and feedback and fun and doodles, and then I mail it out to you.

Fun.

$100 – Alex Cormack Commission: Put You In a Spacesuit x 6

Alex will sketch you into a spacesuit in a commission and send it out to you. Perfect for you, or as a gift to others [get them sketches into it].

$140 – Alex Cormack Commission: Whatever You Want x 6

Alex will just straight up draw whatever you want – single characters only – and you get a dream piece of art.

$300 – Alex Cormack is Your New Cover Artist x 1

This one is here for those who are assembling their own comics. You NEED a great cover, and Alex is here for you to do that, and he’s worth every damn dollar.

Plus, he’ll mail you the finished art piece, so you’ll have this slice of your own comic history to hang on the wall. Trust me, this is killer for the head, the heart, and the wallet.

——-

We think there’s some fun stuff in there for you to chew on, so we hope you get in quick before some of these get snapped up quick.

You’ll also be happy to know that any of these pledge levels is also going to run you 7 ebooks and 7 digital comics as Stretch Goals unlocked, if we make the right amount, as well as the already set 1 digital comic and 1 scriptbook you’re also signed up for with this book.

There’s value in this campaign, and we aim to please.

See you tomorrow as we unpack all of the digital extras that’ll roll out throughout the campaign.

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET – The Pledge Levels $2-$15

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET is a spacesuit noir revenge one-shot comic from Alex Cormack and me and it’s coming to Kickstarter next week.

To get you prepared, so you can get your brain cogs turning now before you ever hit the campaign, we wanted to let you know the pledge levels – their costs, and their bounty.

$2 – The PDF

For two Aussie dollars [remember, this means a lesser total in currency of the UK and USA, and others], you can have the PDF of STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET, so you can read the whole 22 page story. The book is already complete, so you’ll get this very quickly after the campaign ends.

$4 – The Deluxe PDF

This is a PDF with the whole story, plus the whole script, and some back matter process of art, and essays on similar topics, and pin ups, and designed posters, and whatever else we can throw in there :]

This should run you 60+ pages, easy.

$7 – The PDF Box Set

This gets you the PDF, the Deluxe PDF, as well as The RKL Script Book Vol. 4 feat. scripts from all kinds of books I’ve written.

This tier is a jump up, but it’ll also give you access to some extra material we unlock throughout the campaign, and you’re definitely gonna walk away with enough digital comics material to fill a box.

$10 – The Talking Pin Up and the PDFs

I will letter a pin up of Yelena and email you the resulting JPG, as shown below.

You also get all previous digital rewards.

$15 – Audio Commentary

You can download an Audio Commentary by me that you can listen to as you read the comic n real time and it’ll give you inside tips into how the comic was made, as well as provide some process viewpoints that might help a fellow creator.

This tier comes with all previous digital rewards*.

*But if you want a Talking Pin Up you have to add another $2, please.

——-

Okay, these are your baseline digital rewards for the campaign. You can buy in low, $2, and get the story – there’s no excuse for feeling like that’s priced outta range, I hope.

But, if you want to support either of us and throw a little more, then we’ll aim to throw a little more back. These tiers contain a lot of work, a lot of effort, and throughout the campaign we plan on unlocking a wide variety of extra downloads and PDFs and eBooks to get you excited to read comics and love them even more.

We also want everyone getting their money’s worth. If you’ve backed any of my campaigns before, you know what I mean. If you haven’t, then ask someone who has – they’ll let you know that money spent on this campaign is well spent because you’ll get plenty more bang for your buck with us than you have anywhere else in a long while.

We launch in a week, get excited, and we’ll let you know in two days what the pledge level tiers are like for the $5–$300 range :]

Stay tuned.

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET – Meet and Greet

My next one-shot comic is a spacesuit noir revenge tale with Alex Cormack called STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET and it’s coming to Kickstarter next week, for the whole of November.

I’m in love with this book and I want you to fall in love, too, so here’s a little meet and greet for you to get to know everyone and everything about it:

ALEX CORMACK

Hot on the heels of his titanic launching of indie runaway success SINK with writer John Lees at ComixTribe, we steal Alex away for one issue and he brings everything to these pages. His inks were phenomenal, and then he coloured himself and made some insanely great choices. This book looks this good because he’s an artist worth knowing, following, and falling in love with.

Here’s a panel of our spacesuited lead using a gravity well around her fist to draw in nefarious nanoblobs to use them against her attackers.

HASSAN OTSMANE-ELHAOU

The brains behind the analytical masterpieces StripPanelNaked and PanelXPanel can also letter. The amount of intellect he’s brought to this comic is amazing and everything is 1000x better because of his inclusion in the book.

Here’s our opening panel.

YELENA

Our lead character, and she’s a bruiser. Her planet is being terraformed by invading android weirdo armies and she’s fought the good fight and now is making one last Hail Mary play.

I’ve loved writing Yelena and I think a lot of people are going to love her after they read this issue.

PLATH

Our story’s villain, or, the lead villain representing a villainous regime. It’s hard to pin down exactly what Plath is – robot, techno-organic 80s video nasty, fleshy intergalactic Cronenberg nightmare – so it’s better to judge Plath by actions, not words. And Plath is nasty, just soullessly nasty. The kind of soulless nasty we need to defeat in the world in 2017.

And that’s really all you need to know. I could tell you more about Yelena’s planet, but it’s pretty well fubar. I could explain how Yelena’s sister figures into this, but I’d rather that be a surprise. And I won’t recount what the robot army are like as a whole because if Plath is their leader then you know something’s rotting in Intergalactic Denmark.

Though it might be sensible to introduce myself, I suppose.

RYAN K LINDSAY

I’m a writer. This is my sixth Kickstarter campaign. I’ve written for Dark Horse, Black Mask, Vertigo, IDW, ComixTribe, and my own imprint which this comic will be on – Four Colour Ray Gun.

I hope you like all the ingredients that have gone into this book and we’ll see you next week when we launch, and launch strong.

Stay tuned!

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET – Coming Soon to Kickstarter

STAIN THE SEAS SCARLET is a spacesuit noir revenge one-shot from Alex Cormack and me that’s coming to Kickstarter in November.

This 22 page standalone one-shot comic is completely finished and we’ll be running a digital only campaign for it next month. It follows Yelena, a resistance warrior realising the terraforming robot army has won, but that’s no reason to give up.

You can get the comic, or some digital extras – in the usual style you’ll know well if you’ve backed any of my 5 previously successful campaigns – and then there’ll be great art opportunities, other fun stuff, and plenty of digital extras unlocked as we cruise past our funding goal and beyond.

We’re going to be hunting for $3000 so I’ll let you know particulars you should keep an eye out for in the lead up to this so we can launch with a strong day and no one misses out on the good stuff they wanted right away – there’s gonna be OG art, and a cover commission you will not want to miss if you’re putting together your own comic projects.

I’m excited to release this comic because Alex Cormack’s art in it is completely wild and you’re going to fall in love, this I promise.

INK ISLAND Kickstarter – Launch a Comic and a Teaching Guide

INK ISLAND is an all ages one shot comic by me and Craig Bruyn which is live on Kickstarter right now.

We are running a campaign to help fund the production of the comic in print form, as well as the dispersal of a Teaching Guide to go with the comic, for use in the classroom or home.

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE INK ISLAND KICKSTARTER NOW

This full colour 22 page one-shot comic tells the story of Parker and Elliot [my children] who live in a lighthouse and have the duty of keeping the disgusting monsters in the dark away.

When an attack during a blown globe results in Elliot being kidnapped, Parker must conquer his trepidation and travel out with his fearless stuffed frog companion, Williams, to mount a rescue mission to Ink Island.

The book is a personal study in how we overcome our worries, and how siblings rely on each other. It examines perceived gender roles, the power of inner strength, and the beauty of teamwork and partnership. It is also wildly imaginative and stupidly funny, so is sure to engage the children we know, and the ones we hide we still are.

Craig Bryun’s art in the comic is a phenomenal blend of the absurd and the amazing. Whether it’s delivering an emotional beat through a child’s face, or defining the pert yet hairy glutes of a dirty Inky monster, Craig can do it all with style, as he also colours all his own work here.

The comic itself means a lot to me, which is why I’m offering it in print form, but also why it’s also still a $1 pdf. Then there’s the Teaching Guide, which is months of hard work to pick lessons which unpack comics in the classroom in rich and meaningful ways. I’m really hoping this aspect resonates with teachers – especially considering I’m also offering an Audio Commentary that can totally be used in the classroom as I’ll unpack what we were trying to do in this comic, how, and why kids can learn something about storytelling or emotions or ugly monsters by studying this comic.

There are also options to get Craig to draw original art for you – you can get him to draw your kids V some Inky monsters, or you can just choose any old character you like.

The Kickstarter campaign will run for 30 days, so any link sharing on social media or verbal support you can yell out randomly in car parks and such is greatly appreciated.

Go to the INK ISLAND Kickstarter page to scope all the information and decide at which level you’d like to support the book.
